When They Go Low, I Aim For The Nut Sack

I can’t count how many times I’ve been called a baby-killing commie by right-wingers who don’t understand the difference between pro-choice and pro-abortion, much less communism and socialism. Hell, despite worshipping at its altar, most of them don’t even understand the basic tenets of capitalism, though to be fair said ignorance is hardly surprising in a country where only 3% of universities mandate passing a basic economics class in order to graduate.

As I wrote in a previous piece, capitalism and socialism are not mutually exclusive. Quite the opposite, capitalism needs socialism in order to survive and thrive over the long haul. Attempting to explain the symbiotic relationship between the two to a Trump supporter feels bizarrely akin to trying to explain why you should look both ways before crossing the street to an irate, whiny toddler who could give a damn and thinks you’re just a “dumb poopy-head”. In other words, it’s pointless.

Pointless or not (and it is most definitely pointless) my masochist self keeps pleading with my pragmatic self to try, try again. And so I do—and I do it knowing I’ll either be dismissed as a coastal elitist who thinks I’m better than everyone else or I’ll be barraged with an unsophisticated, poopy-head level of boring, overdone name calling. (Seriously Cult 45ers… surely you must have something in your arsenal other than “libtard” and “snowflake”?)

I always try to bring my pro-socialism arguments down to a level even the rigidly dogmatic and woefully underexposed to any viewpoint not their own can understand. Nevertheless, those conversations rarely go well. They typically look something like this:

White Guy With Persecution Complex: “This is a capitalist country! If you want commie socialism go move to China. I want to keep my hard-earned money rather than pay for deadbeats!”

Me: “China is a communist country. I don’t want to live in a communist system.”

White Guy With Persecution Complex: "Whatever! The point is communism is like socialism and both are un-American and will never be accepted here so get used to it!”

Me: “This republic is already a socialist democracy so your statement is false.”

White Guy With Persecution Complex: "Bullshit! You’re an idiot!”

Me: “We aren’t a model one like Germany or the Scandinavian countries, but we are nevertheless a socialist democracy.”

White Guy With Persecution Complex: "You’re just stupid!”

Me: [getting irritated] “Do you support the military? Police? Firefighters? Libraries? Well probably not libraries—bad example for someone of your intellectual capacity. What about having roads to drive your ‘shit-kickin pickup truck with oversized wheels’ down?”

White Guy With Persecution Complex: "I’m proud of my pickup! It’s American made! And the military is not socialism, retard!”

Me: [resists urge to point out the unlikelihood of his truck being American made] “Military, fire, and police are, in fact, socialist systems. Just like with welfare, we pay taxes to the federal government to pay for communal benefits we all rely upon to be there when needed.”

White Guy With Persecution Complex: "I don’t need welfare! Get a fucking job!”

Me: [teeth gritting] “I guarantee you at some point in your life you or one of your family members will benefit from it if you haven’t already! But people like you always—without fail—think they and their families are the exception and that everyone else is a freeloader. And you believe that because you’ve been brainwashed into believing it by the GOP. They never use the blasphemous S word (socialism) to describe the military or police because the military and police benefit the wealthy by keeping a barrier between the cockroaches—you know, you and me—and the possessions of the elite class. But the stuff that doesn’t benefit the wealthy? Those are the parts of socialism the GOP labels ‘commie’.”

White Guy With Persecution Complex: "Well I don’t want to pay for welfare!”

Me: “I don’t want to pay for military spending (read: billionaire defense contractors) but it is what it is for the moment.”

White Guy With Persecution Complex: "Stupid fucking libtard! Go back to your safe space and read a book!”

Me: [licks fangs] “Safe space? 😏 We liberals aren’t the ones trying to turn the United States into one big thumb-sucking safe space by banning Muslims because little old ladies wearing hijabs make us go pee-pee in our pants-pants!”

White Guy With Persecution Complex: "We’re not scared of old ladies! The men are the ones to worry about!”

Me: “But you claim to be the alpha males of the USA. Liberal men don’t cower in fear over Muslim men. 😨 I guess that makes you conservatives the beta males.”

White Guy With Persecution Complex: "Go fuck yourself!”

Me: “Maybe later. And then there’s the big, bad wall…”

White Guy With Persecution Complex: "You’ll thank us for that one day!”

Me: “Yeah, all those Mexican people pretending to seek a better life as they brandish a leaf blower in one hand and a rosary in the other. So scary.”

White Guy With Persecution Complex: "They also bring in drugs, libtard!”

Me: “Well you won’t have to worry about that once the wall is built. The USA will become Skull Island—cowering Americans on one side and terrifying Latinos on the other. Maybe we should fling virgins over the wall every Cinco de Mayo as an offering to the Almighty Kong—errrr—El Chapo.”

White Guy With Persecution Complex: "Whatever! You’re just talking shit because you feel triggered!”

Me: [bored and ready to move on] “Do I laugh now or later? I am untriggerable, oh triggered one.”

White Guy With Persecution Complex: "You’re triggered! Admit it! Hahahaha!!!!!”

Me: “Whatever helps you believe your micro-penis is large. You’re boring me now, window-licker. Later, delicate petal.”

Reasoning With A Member of Cult 45: Where’s The Xanax?

Remember: I never claimed those conversations went well. As much as I wish I could successfully emulate Michelle Obama, I am currently incapable of taking the high road. When they go low, I reach for the gonads and twist.

Once upon a time I could resist “going there”, but today I don’t even try. I think I am so over hearing about the woe-is-me-forgotten-white-man that I’m hard-pressed to drum up anything akin to giving a shit. There exists, after all, plenty of struggling white men who did not vote for the racist, misogynist, xenophobic, toxically divisive Trump.

Those are the men whose backs I’ll have when they need me: the ones who chose “we” over “me”, the ones who believe black lives matter, that women should own their own bodies, and who recognize the GOP’s strategy of conquering through division for what it is. As to the members of Cult 45?

Come here and have a seat. I think you’ll find the chair I provide as comforting and non-threatening as the country you gave me.

"President" 45 Has History Of Comparing Himself To God

It's too bad Republicans didn't take Scotland's heed and refuse to let 45 (I won't type its name anymore unless there is no other way to report on the issues) run as their nominee. Instead they invited in the devil to further their agenda and all of us are suffering for it—even the ones who don't realize it yet. But I'm digressing...

According to The Irish Times, 45 accused Scottish politician Patrick Harvie of blasphemy after Harvie posted a tweet regarding 45 that he didn't like. Blasphemy. Let me repeat that: he accused the politician of blasphemy. "The Scottish blasphemy law was last enforced in 1843 but, under parliament rules, an investigation had to be launched," wrote journalist Peter Geoghegan. "The case was dismissed, making Harvie the only Scottish parliamentarian ever to be formally cleared of blasphemy."

I've posted a quick video (and humorous recap!) from Samantha Bee's show because it puts the blasphemy case into perspective alongside what was going on in Scotland at the time this event occurred. Nevertheless, I highly suggest reading The Irish Times piece for an altogether different reason. Namely, the division and hostility 45 created in Scotland amongst ordinary citizens is eerily similar to the state of being that is, as Time magazine so aptly dubbed it, the current Divided States of America.

Two Segregationists Confirmed In Two Days

2017's Black History Month will go down in American history as either the beginning of the end or the end of the beginning. If February 7th & 8th are any indication of what is to come—and I believe in my heart of hearts that they are—we are closer to Civilutionary War than ever before. Indeed, I'll be surprised if the country hasn't broken down into armed militias by spring and torn itself apart by summer.

Later that same day, Senator Elizabeth Warren was silenced by GOP Senate Majority Leader Mitch "The Bitch" McConnell when she tried to read the letter Coretta Scott King wrote regarding Jeff Sessions’ racially bigoted patterns of behavior. The GOP senators then voted to censure Senator Warren using an obscure rule only invoked ONCE in American history, effectively barring her from speaking during the February 8 confirmation hearing of Jeff Sessions to the position of Attorney General.

As awful as all the above is, perhaps the most frightening and foreboding thing to occur on February 7 was this: The House Administration Committee voted 6-3 along party lines to eliminate the Election Assistance Commission, which helps states run elections and is the only federal agency charged with making sure voting machines can’t be hacked. The agency was set up after the Bush-Gore debacle of 2000; the GOP has been trying to get rid of it ever since—mission accomplished.

On February 8, 2017 Jeff Sessions was, as expected, confirmed to the position of U.S. Attorney General. He will be in charge of the country’s civil rights division despite his racist and anti-gay views. All Republican senators and a Democrat from West Virginia voted in favor of his confirmation while all other Democrats voted against it.

I knew both confirmations would go through, but I’m still gutted by the fact they did. America, I do not recognize you anymore.

Russians Make "In Trump We Trust" Coins

Imagine the screams of "Anti-Christ!" we'd have heard if any nation on earth had minted In Obama We Trust coins. So far I've yet to hear a single conservative call out this newly minted Russian coin as the blasphemy it is. Replacing God with Trump is just... NOT okay!

If this was the only "for instance" out there of Trump being likened to God then it would be easier to chalk it up to a one off, if offensively melodramatic, occurrence. But it's not the first time and will undoubtedly not be the last time either.

God, save us.

Blasphemy: The Deification of Trump & Putin

Unfortunately, online proclamations such as this one are not uncommon:

Not to be outdone, Putin has his own worshippers:

The man who ordered the murder of 400,000 Russians is the Defender of Christianity?

Orthodox Russians have elevated Putin to the same god-emperor status that Evangelicals have deified Donald Trump. If that doesn't frighten you, especially given both of their unrepentant perversions of morality, it should.

White Americans, Social Media & Accountability

This is a piece I wrote on September 15, 2016. Bear that in mind if it feels dated. Also bear in mind how pathetic it is that America is spiraling downward fast enough for 4 months to even feel "dated"...

-------------

The San Bernardino shooting. The Dallas police massacre. The cold, calculated executions of gay men at Orlando's Pulse nightclub...

All three of those horrific killing sprees were committed by American citizens against other American citizens. While that fact in and of itself isn't as shocking as it should be, the common denominator that sets these specific mass murderers apart from the rest is rather noteworthy. To put a fine if blunt point on it, none of the assailants were white males.

In the United States, mass murders and serial killings have almost exclusively been carried out by members of the most privileged group of Americans amongst us. In terms of domestic terrorists alone, white males kill innocent victims at a rate double that of all Black, Latino, Asian, and Native American men combined. For the first time in... well, EVER... the United States is experiencing a new wave of domestic terrorism perpetrated by males from marginalized groups. Yet few if any are asking why.

Muslims have been a part of the American fabric since the nation's inception. Black men can claim a longer history in this country than most whites can. Access to guns has always been a fundamental right in this here. In other words, very little has changed in the U.S.

This observation is especially marked when we narrow the scope of change to the past thirty or so odd years. Other than the legalization of same-sex marriage, the advent of the internet and, much more recently, an ever-increasing reliance on social media, time has essentially stood still. So what has changed for the marginalized male and, as we saw in San Bernardino, the marginalized female?

Racism and Otherism have always been more American than a freshly baked apple pie served on a flag during a baseball game. Minorities have had to deal with the reality of discrimination, stereotyping, and victim-blaming since before our country's birth. The only difference between then and now is this is the first time in our checkered history where oppressed peoples have been subjected by their oppressors to an every moment of every day assault on their character, dignity, and basic human value. This continuous bombardment of white volatility mixed with white denial and blame-shifting is as traumatizing as it is radicalizing.

The above screenshots were taken from just one conservative site, on one day, four years ago. Since that time, online hatred and defamation against minorities has become frighteningly commonplace. Here's a quick recap of what is now the new norm:
  • Innumerable videos of police officers killing unarmed black men and children are available to view online. Instead of feeling mortified and demanding justice for the deceased, large numbers of white people dismiss, trivialize, and even blame the victims for their own murders. This behavior hit an all-time low with the death of Tamir Rice, a 12-year-old Cleveland child who was executed by a police officer while playing with a toy gun. Again, a large number of whites blamed the child for his own death, despite the fact his killer had a history of emotional instability and disciplinary reprimands. Imagine the collective rage if a 12-year-old white child named Tommy Rice had been the victim? There wouldn't have been an excuse good enough to appease white America.
  • After a series of fatal incidents involving unarmed black people being murdered by police officers, the hashtag #BlackLivesMatter surfaced on social media. Rather than agreeing and stating that black lives do indeed matter, large numbers of whites responded with #BlueLivesMatter, #WhiteLivesMatter, #AllLivesMatter, and so on. In other words, many whites trivialized and deflected a very real trauma in the black community by making the story about them.
  • Hate speech against Muslims has been on the rise for a few years now. This hostile outpouring of vengeance and rage has spilled over into the offline world, culminating in a climate where American Muslims are now being routinely attacked in vicious hate crimes. A few days ago, on the 15th anniversary of 9/11, a Muslim woman was set on fire in the middle of New York City; last week two young Muslim mothers were attacked in the New York City borough of Brooklyn by a rabid Trump supporter who punched one of the women in the face, tried to forcibly remove her hijab, and assaulted her 15-month-old child by attempting to knock over his baby stroller.
  • Georgetown University has found a marked correlation between the rise of Donald Trump in this election season and hate crimes toward American Muslims. (An excellent article with summations can be found here.) Update: The Southern Poverty Law Center has found the same correlation since Trump's electoral college "win".
Those four bullet points barely scratch the surface of the new Wild West free-for-all that has become the internet and social media. There is also the wall Trump wants to build along the Mexican border, Trump's campaign promise to end birthright citizenship (aimed at people of color), and on the list goes. Compound these major issues with a seemingly endless supply of demeaning articles, posts, and commentary dehumanizing minorities and what you are left with is a recipe for disaster. Or in this case, a recipe for domestic terrorism.

Anonymity of the internet does not negate the lasting ramifications of the words we write or our culpability in having written them. Choosing to overlook volatile comments rather than calling people out for issuing them makes you equally responsible for any tragedy that results from them. WORDS MATTER. The commenters I've highlighted here might not have technically pulled the triggers in San Bernardino, Dallas, and Orlando, but at the end of the day they are as ethically and morally responsible for all of those American deaths as the gunmen themselves.

The Whore of Babylon, The Anti-Christ & Ivanka Trump

I wrote about the creepy links that exist between Trump and the anti-christ (per the book of Revelation) in one of my earliest posts. That particular entry, incidentally, has been read and shared by viewers 90x more than all of LR's other blog posts combined. I'm glad this topic is of interest to so many because I've got more addendums to tack onto the original article. (Note: before reading further, I suggest re/reading that piece first.)

All caught up? Then let's begin...

It was recently announced to the press that, despite anti-nepotism laws, Ivanka and her husband Jared will both be taking on important positions in the White House. As of this writing, the public has still not been told what their exact roles will be, but we do know both husband and wife will be working in the West Wing. Because of this eventuality, it is important to take a closer look at precisely who these people are. Let's start with a skeletal timeline of their relationship.

  • 2005: Ivanka and Jared are introduced by friends. According to Ivanka, the duo begins dating almost immediately.
  • 2006: Jared purchases 666 Fifth Ave. for $1.8 billion—the largest sum of money ever paid for a building in Manhattan at that time.
  • 2007 or 2008: Jared breaks up with Ivanka because she isn't Jewish. (There are conflicting media reports regarding the year this happened; some say 2007, others 2008.)
  • 2008: Wendy Deng, then wife of Rupert Murdock and current girlfriend of Vladmir Putin, invites the former couple for a weekend on the Murdock yacht. Deng doesn't tell Jared that Ivanka will be there and vice-versa.
  • 2008: Whatever happened on the Murdock yacht resulted in Ivanka's decision to convert to Reform Orthodox Judaism and, of course, her subsequent engagement to Jared Kushner. Converting to Judaism is as rigorous a process as converting to Catholicism, but she managed to do so rather quickly and took the Hebrew name Yael before year's end.
  • 2009: Ivanka and Jared marry.
  • 2011: Arabella Rose Kushner is born.
  • 2013: Joseph Frederick Kushner (JFK) is born; his middle name is an homage to Ivanka's paternal grandfather, Fred Christ Trump.
  • 2016: Theodore James Kushner is born.

Friends and acquaintances of the couple describe Ivanka as the outgoing, socially polished one and Jared as the quiet, reserved, calculating one. Of Jared, one of his closest friends compared him to a "chameleon" and noted that, while young in age, Kushner's soul is old.

    The Whore of Babylon

There exists little to no consensus on much of anything from those who've made it their life's work studying—and hoping to decode—the final book of the Bible. Amongst believers, Christian adherents range from those who view the Book of Revelation as a metaphor, to those that say it's downright fiction, to those who maintain it is the literal, prophesized truth of events to come. The latter group, mostly comprised of Evangelicals, believe Revelation is the literal truth yet inconsistently attempt to decode it using metaphors.

Let's go for a literal translation. Doing so requires not only knowledge of the Bible, but an understanding of history—especially as it relates to the etymology of words. It also requires being able to place oneself in the proverbial shoes of the man who wrote it, John.

There is no consensus on which John wrote Revelation. I won't divert from the subject at hand to get into the various theories, but whoever John was is less important for purposes of interpretation than where and when he lived. The answer to where, again without overloading you with too much information, is likely the Mediterranean (Greece, Greek Isles, Turkey, or Italy). The answer to when is the 1st century. In other words, we must endeavor to interpret the dreams and visions of a man who lived in the Mediterranean during the 1st century.

No prophetic scholar disputes that the Whore of Babylon and the Anti-Christ are deeply connected. The arguments arise from the questions of (a) how they are connected and (b) whether the Whore of Babylon is a person or a place. I would argue that if you believe the events in Revelation will occur in the literal sense then it stands to reason all interpretations of the book should also be derived from the literal.

Jesus Christ was born to a virgin mother. The Anti-Christ is the antithesis of everything Jesus is and represents. The logical Evangelical conclusion should therefore be that the Whore of Babylon is literally the mother of the Anti-Christ.
Revelation 17:4: And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet color, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls...
A 1st century man who dreamt of a woman wearing purple and scarlet would associate those colors with vast wealth. That assertion is further emphasized by describing her as adorned with gold and jewels. In other words, she is a woman of great financial means. Likewise, pearls would have been indicative of wealth back then. And according to Ivanka, "Pearl earrings were a gift from my husband when my son Joseph was born."
Revelation 17:4 (cont): ...having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication.
This is where etymology comes in handy. In the Christian Bible, the word whore carries no sexual connotation with it. Rather, a whore is a person who commits fornication. The word fornication, unless explicitly stated otherwise, does not carry a sexual meaning in the Christian Bible either. Throughout the Old and New Testaments, fornication is used to describe the act of committing adultery against God by renouncing Him for other god/s.

If the Whore of Babylon is the mother of the Anti-Christ then she has to be a woman who committed adultery against the true Christ by renouncing Him as her God. In other words, she would have to have converted from Christianity to another religion.

    Where Is Babylon?

To a 1st century man, Babylon would have represented a major city of commerce where many languages are spoken (The Tower of Babel). Furthermore...
Revelation 17:1: I will show unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters.
If taken literally, Babylon would have to be on an island. The metaphorical aspects of what the waters represent is also described by John:
Revelation 17:15: And he saith unto me, the waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.
A city of commerce that sits on an island rife with people who herald from a multitude of nations and speak many different languages...

Does any city in the modern world meet all of that criteria as demonstrably as New York City? From Wall Street's New York Stock Exchange to the headquarters of the UN (United Nations) overlooking the East River, it is reasonable to argue no.

    More Weirdness

I happened to capture the screenshot at right of the Kushners current apartment in Manhattan during a news segment that covered Ivanka and Jared's search for a home in Washington D.C. What's with the bizarre cross in the living room of 2 Orthodox Jews? Worse, the cross appears to be inverted or tilted.

    It gets weirder.

In October 2010, Ivanka and Jared appeared together on the TV show Gossip Girl as themselves. It was the first and last time the Kushners made a guest appearance on a show together. The title of the episode? The Whore of Babylon.

    Bottom Line

666 Fifth Avenue. Frederick Christ Trump. Vast wealth. Renouncing Jesus. The Whore of Babylon. An eyebrow-raising piece of "art" in the living room of the current Trump-Kushner apartment in Manhattan...

If you don't believe the book of Revelation contains the literal truth of events leading up to the end of days then this article is a groan-and-face-palm moment for you. For Evangelicals who do believe in the prophesies of Revelation, however, it would be exceedingly remiss not to consider what is so blatantly right there in plain sight.

Hard-right Israeli Politician: Trump Is Messiah

    Another day, another WTF moment...

    Arye Deri
According to The Jerusalem Post, Arye Deri—Israel's Shas Chairman and Interior Minister—was quoted as saying, “If such a miracle like this can happen we have already reached the days of the Messiah, therefore we are really in the era of the birth pangs of the Messiah."

The "miracle" Deri was referring to was the election of Trump, a simian primate who will not stand in the way of Israel's continual annexation of Palestine. Although a direct violation of international law and the Geneva Convention, Israel's hardline conservative government has spent the last 40 years building Jewish-only settlements on Palestinian land.

The illegal occupation and annexation of Palestine continues to sharply divide Israel; roughly half of Israelis are pro-annexation while half believe it is past time for Israel to comply with the 1967 agreement and withdraw. In the pro-annexation camp, most supporters do not believe Palestinians should be given equal rights as citizens, which would usher in a US sanctioned apartheid—if not the outright genocide of Palestinians—in a one-nation Israel.

Republicans, Blasphemy & The Anti-Christ: This Is Getting Weird

On Christmas Day, Reince Priebus released a statement to the media that is, to a Christian, downright blasphemous:

Try as the Republican party has to spin the RNC's press release, the highlighted sentence above is impossible to take out of context. In other words, according to the GOP, Jesus Christ was the old King and Donald Trump (or a member of his family?) is the new King.

    What. The. HELL?

All I can say is this: get right with Jesus/God because these troubling signs are getting increasingly difficult to brush aside. I've got a lot more info to post over the next few days and, quite frankly, none of it is making me feel particularly hopeful about the days ahead.

Twitter is the easiest of the various social media platforms to identify white supremacists on. Just look for the frog:

Richard Spencer; founder of alt-right (a.k.a. Nazi) white nationalist movement

And another "winner" of a white boy...

David Duke of the KKK; pro-Putin Nazi

Episode #8: #Pizzagate - Putin - and the US Military

Putin, Trump, and the US Military: Can Americans Trust ANYONE?

A mural in Vilnius, Lithuania. Photo credit: The New Yorker
I've been watching the words and deeds of vets and active military personnel pretty closely over the last 16 months... and every day my view of them as a collective whole grows warier. I don't want to distrust the people who are supposed to be fighting for our freedom, but the loudest ones are making it difficult not to.

After news broke yesterday of the CIA's confirmation that Russia interfered in the 2016 election with the intention of getting Trump elected, a thinking person would believe such a massive revelation would give the military pause. It hasn't. If anything, they have dug their cyber heels in deeper, going so far as to voice pro-Russia sentiments. This leaves me no choice but to ask, just who the fuck's side is the US military on anymore? If it's the American people's, I sure can't tell.

The level of misguided hostility toward Hillary Clinton coupled with a nonsensical devotion toward Trump is brain-ache worthy. Just what kind of "training" goes on in bootcamps these days? I don't know that we'll ever have that mystery solved. What I do know is there are two arenas which, once explored, fuel more questions than they provide answers: the three retired generals Trump may or may not appoint to his cabinet and the massive cognitive dissonance between what many vets/military say is important versus how they voted. First, lets look at the basic ticking points on those three retired generals.

    Lt. General Michael Flynn

    General David Petraeus

      General James "Mad Dog" Mattis
      • His nickname = enough said
      • Known for such "gems" as, “Be polite, be professional, but have a plan to kill everybody you meet,” and "If you fuck with me, I’ll kill you all"
      • Requires a congressional waiver to become Secretary of Defense; has only been retired 3 of the required 7 years per The National Security Act of 1947
      • Will face opposition from retired military who serve in congress

None of the three generals come without massive amounts of baggage. Petraeus, frighteningly enough, is the least scary of the unholy trio. Give him some head and he'll give you classified info—yet still he's preferable to General Frick and General Frack. Which brings me to point #2...

If the military is sooooo outraged by Hillary Clinton's email server because potential classified documents could have "compromised soldiers" (they didn't) then why the hell are they okay with General Happy Pants being in a position of massive power? The truth is this: not a single one of them can articulate a reasonable argument that explains the cognitive dissonance on display here. They throw shade, sputter, and shout "commie" at you for asking, but that's as persuasive as their (cough) arguments get.

Again, I ask, whose side are soldiers on?

Before the 2016 election, there were certain absolutes within the ethos of military culture we could count on. If for no other reason than not giving a soldier with a different background/race/etc from your own a reason to not have your back when you most need it, the absolutes were few but sacred.

Always show the utmost respect to Gold Star families.

Before the Trump Virus infected US politics, that golden rule was one only the dumbest of soldiers would dare break. Since we never heard stories about the Gold Star Family rule being tossed aside pre-Trump, we can probably safely assume any scant incidents of it were quickly stamped out by fellow soldiers or their superiors. Fast forward to the post-Trump world we now live in and it's as if that ethos never existed at all. I cannot count how many insults against Mr. and Mrs. Khan—especially against the former—I have personally seen with my own two eyes since the grieving father delivered his now historic speech at the Democratic National Convention:

Rather than defend the Khans when Trump attacked them, I watched members of the military defame and mock grieving parents. I saw posts from self-proclaimed soldiers in which they shamefully disseminated falsehoods about the Khans' faith, claiming they were supporters of Sharia Law when the opposite is true. Again I ask, whose side is the military on?

      POWs Are Off-Limits

Before Trump, you would be hard-pressed to find any American, much less a veteran or active duty soldier, who would cast a vote for a presidential candidate that mocked John McCain's status as a former POW. You would also have difficulty finding a candidate who could make it to the primaries much less survive them after spouting such an insult, but that's another story.

This election has brought about many firsts, none of which have been good. We have gone from being a people with normal relational issues amongst ourselves—for the most part—to a people firmly and perhaps irrevocably divided. Trump did that... and many vocal members of the military both past and present helped him bring us to this place.

Active military personnel are supposed to be publicly apolitical, but I saw little evidence of that during this election. Perhaps the worst, most vile spewers of online hatred have been the nasty ass, racist, venomous wives of these men. It's difficult to argue a soldier is apolitical when his own spouse is filling up Twitter with repugnant hatred, pro-Trump propaganda, and little else. More than a handful of these women also sport the frog logo on their Twitter bios; frogs might have been associated with Navy Seals in the past, but on Twitter today they represent the alt-right, Neo-Nazi, white nationalist movement.

And so I ask all members of the military for the last time, whose side are you on? You might want to figure that out before the black/Muslim/Hispanic wife of a soldier of color you depend on to have your back gets word that it's reasonable to assume you don't have his.

Sofia Vergara Being Sued By Her Embryos (Face Palm)

If for some unfathomable reason you still need more proof that the crazies have been emboldened by Trump's electoral college presidency to be, well, look no further.

Actress Sofia Vergara is being sued by her frozen embryos for denying them the right to life. She's no longer with her former partner and hasn't been for 2+ years, but hey, what has logic and personal choice ever had to do with rightwing thinking? (Rhetorical question.)

Although Ms. Vergara's frozen embryos have been cryopreserved in California, her ex is suing from Louisiana where frozen embryos hold equal rights to actual people.

A word of warning to any (read: all) men who masturbate: it's just a matter of time before choking the chicken becomes a questionable legal right. After all, you kill tens of thousands of potential offspring every single time you rub one out. You brutal serial killers need to think about THAT the next time you watch the make-sexy-time channel. Your hand belongs to the state.
